VMI vertical packaging machine

The VMI vertical packaging machine is the tilting VM: the machine tilts so the product drops gently and reaches the bag without breaking. The tilt is adjusted electronically from the screen to suit the product, at 40 to 80 bags per minute in pillow bags, flat-bottom bags, gathered-top bags and strips of bags. Designed for fragile or delicate solids.

How it works

  1. Unwinding

    The reel holder with mechanical self-centring feeds the film; it detects the end of the reel and allows semi-automatic splicing.

  2. Tilt

    The machine angle is set from the screen, so the product slides down the forming tube instead of dropping straight down.

  3. Forming

    The forming tube, made to the size of your bag, shapes the film. The pull-down belts are driven by a 0.75 kW servo.

  4. Dosing

    The product arrives from the dosing unit mounted above, usually a multihead weigher for fragile solids.

  5. Sealing and cutting

    Jaws with pneumatic piston, PID temperature control and air blowing; cut by length or by eye mark with the SICK KT5 photocell and an encoder that ensures the length.

  6. Outfeed

    The finished bag leaves on the conveyor; the large rear area takes a printer or labeller.

Frequently asked questions

Why tilt the packaging machine?

So that the product does not drop straight down the forming tube. With the machine tilted, the product slides and reaches the bag without breaking, which is why the VMI is designed for fragile or delicate solids.

How is the tilt adjusted?

Electronically from the packaging machine's touch screen, according to the type of product. No mechanical adjustment is needed.

What speed does the VMI vertical packaging machine reach?

Between 40 and 80 bags per minute. The figure depends on the product, the bag length and the machine's tilt.

What is the difference between the VMI 400 and the VMI 620?

The film and bag width. The VMI 400 handles films from 180 to 400 mm for bags up to 190 mm wide; the VMI 620, films from 180 to 620 mm for bags up to 300 mm.

How does it differ from the VM vertical packaging machine?

The VM works upright. The VMI shares its components, speed and formats, but adds adjustable tilt for fragile products.

What bag formats does it make?

Pillow bags, flat-bottom bags with the English fold system, gathered-top bags and strips of bags.

What type of film can I use?

Flexible film, such as OPP/CPP, OPP/PE, MST/PE or PET/PE. An optional special seal is available for polyethylene.
