Salt packaging
Salt is corrosive and abrasive, and comes in very different grain sizes: fine salt, coarse salt or flakes. Each is dosed differently, and the machine has to be built for a product that attacks metal and wears parts.
At YM Packaging we pack salt in consumer bags, large sacks, shakers and single-dose packs for foodservice, with the dosing and construction suited to your product.

Packing salt: the challenges
- Corrosive product: contact parts must withstand salt.
- Abrasion: the grain wears hoppers and forming tubes.
- Moisture: salt absorbs water and cakes, so the seal must be good.
- Different grain sizes: fine, coarse or flake salt need different dosing systems.

Frequently asked questions
What machine do I need to pack salt?
It depends on the format. For consumer bags, a vertical packaging machine; for single doses, a sachet and stick pack machine; for sacks, the EVR 1100 bagging machine.
Does salt damage the machines?
It is corrosive and abrasive, so we choose suitable materials and components, such as the 4G weigher for corrosive products.
Do you pack flake salt?
Yes. Flakes are fragile, so they are weighed gently and the product drop is reduced.
