Packaging solutions

Spice packaging

Spices are packed in small, high-value doses: pepper, paprika, oregano, cumin or blends. Each product behaves differently, from whole seeds to very fine powder, and many stain or give off aroma, so dosing and cleaning are key.

At YM Packaging we manufacture vertical machines, sachet and stick pack machines, doypack machines and pot/jar filling machines for the spice industry. With more than 15 years of experience, we design the complete line around your product and format.

Spices

Packing spices: the challenges

  • Small doses: sachets and jars of just a few grams that call for very precise dosing.
  • Dust and colour: spices such as paprika stain and leave residue, so cleaning must be fast.
  • Aroma: the pack must seal well to preserve flavour.
  • Many SKUs: frequent changeovers between spices and blends.

Recommended machines

A typical spices packing line

  1. Infeed of the spice or blend.
  2. Dosing with an auger filler for powder or a volumetric cup filler for whole spices.
  3. Filling and closing of the jar, or forming and sealing of the sachet or bag.
  4. Checkweighing and metal detection.
  5. Case packing.
