Product handling: robotic systems and pick and place

We develop product handling systems that convey, orient, group, load and unload your products automatically within the packaging line and at the end of the line, with precise and safe handling even for delicate products or complex shapes.

Automatic product flow management on the line

At YM Packaging we develop product handling systems designed to optimise the flow within packaging and end-of-line operations.

They convey, orient, group, load or unload products automatically, with precise and safe handling even for delicate products or complex shapes.

  • Many formats: jars, bottles, pouches, trays, cases and more.
  • Modular design: adapts to different line layouts, floor space and production speeds.

Functions within the production line

Product handling systems can take on different roles along the production process:

Line infeed

Automatic loading of product from conveyors, accumulators or trays into the packaging machines.

Line outfeed

Automated unloading of the finished product for case packing, grouping or palletising.

Buffer and accumulation systems

Temporary storage of product on trays, carousels or intermediate buffers, keeping production running during micro-stops or format changes.

Robotics and picking

Robotic handling systems

Our handling solutions use robotics and advanced picking systems to load, unload or position products with high accuracy and repeatability.

They can work as stand-alone units or as part of complete lines, connected to packaging machines, case packers, cartoners or palletising systems.

  • Less manual handling.
  • More efficient lines.
  • More stable production.
  • High accuracy and repeatability in every move.

Loading, unloading, trays and grouping

Solutions for every point of the product flow, adapted to your format.

Robotic loading and unloading

Loading/unloading systems handle single or grouped products with robots fitted with grippers or vacuum tooling adapted to each format.

They are mainly used to feed case packers, insert product into cases and handle fragile products.

Tray loading

Robots pick the product from the conveyor or from pucks and place it accurately into trays or displays.

High placement accuracy, format flexibility and smooth integration with the next packaging steps.

Sorting, ordering and grouping

Systems that sort, order, merge or split product flows before case packing or grouping:

  • Merge several lines into one.
  • Sort product by format or SKU.
  • Orient products before packaging.
  • Optimise the production flow.

Automatic SKU mixing for case packing

For a snack manufacturer we designed a line that automatically mixes three flavours to make assorted cases. Read the full case study.

  1. 01

    Three FFS machines

Each reel-fed horizontal packaging machine packs a different flavour.

  2. 02

    Three ABB delta robots

Synchronised pick and place: they pick the pouches from each line and re-order them onto a common belt.

  3. 03

    Assorted cases

Every row carries one pouch of each flavour and reaches the case packer already in order.

Frequently asked questions

What products can your systems handle?

They work with a wide range of formats: jars, bottles, pouches, trays, cases and more, including delicate products and complex shapes. The robot gripper or vacuum tooling is adapted to each format.

Do they integrate with the rest of the line?

Yes. They can work as stand-alone units or as part of complete lines, connected to packaging machines, case packers, cartoners or palletising systems. Their modular design adapts to the line layout, floor space and production speed.

What is a buffer system for?

It stores product temporarily on trays, carousels or intermediate buffers so production keeps running during micro-stops or format changes.

What is tray loading?

Robotic loading of product into trays or displays: the robot picks the product from the conveyor or from pucks and places it accurately, with format flexibility.

Which robots do you use?

It depends on the application. The case studies on this page use ABB delta robots for pick and place of snack pouches and a Yaskawa robot that feeds PET parts one at a time to a vertical packaging machine.
